Life Drawing 01
The university has life drawing classes on a Wednesday and a Thursday for so many amount of weeks this semester. I had my first class yesterday and have booked in for next Thursday.
These are all the pages that came from the class yesterday. I wasn't interested in trying to capture the model herself as a form but I was more after capturing how her body was reacting in each pose, so you will see a fair bit of exaggeration here as I was emphasizing it for myself. Hopefully this will allow me to draw more useful poses as quick references for my animations.
01:
This was my first page with a pose of roughly 5 minutes. I drew straight and curved lines to show where the body curved. I soon found during the later pages that the body could probably be entirely made up of curved lines connecting to one another. You will see this exploration more further down.
02:
Here I wanted to break down the curves into straight lines to make things appear simpler. straight lines are easier to draw and allowed me to keep the lines neat making the drawing look more precise. The aim here was to get down to the very basics of the models shapes. to help me further analyze the form of the body.
03:
This is just an almost irrelevant leg. I may have exaggerated it a bit too much and it got away from me. You can see my thinking with the curves developing more though.
04:
This was done with the same rough pose for another 5 minutes. This one is more of a combination of the curves and the straight lines I explored in my first two pages.
05:
This is a pose from behind. I used the straight lines again to get to the basics of the pose.
06:
This is the same pose, I was really trying to capture the essence of the flesh and accentuate it in the pose.
07:
This is the same pose again but this time I tried to make up the models body using ovals and cylinders. This was useful in helping me get an underlying shape to work with since it helped me to get the pose in place before any other detail.
08:
Here I was trying to strip everything right back and use lines to get lines of action while still trying top retain the pose.
09:
I basically saw the neck curves down into the spine then in most poses the line of action will move down from the spin into on of the legs.
10:
These next few pages are where I really used the curved lines to make up the figure in front of me.

14:
This group of pages really helped me to see the curves all over the human body.
15:
These last few pages are action poses where the model was switching between two poses. I tried many times to capture the line of action.

Summary:
Overall, this life drawing class was really useful to me and has helped me to build up my confidence with doing my thumbnail sketches for future animations in this project.
