Journals.Articles

Journals/articles

In this post my aim is to find a good source of journals/articles that relate to narrative/animation to help generate some points of interest to help me come up with some possible research questions for my own project.
Some of these might not be something to directly relate to my project but I am unclear as to how my research question will be able to relate to my project so that will go unclear until tomorrow’s meeting hopefully.
A link to a journal might not be clear and it is obvious a bit of a stretch for someone to read them all so I will put the title of the journal/article alongside the link to make this list more user-friendly.

Animated Expressions: Expressive Style in 3D Computer Graphic Narrative Animation: http://anm.sagepub.com/content/4/2/107.full.pdf+html

This article is based around the “naturalistic agenda of 3D animation (CG).” It’s interesting because the writer makes the point that 3D animation is mostly about blending with reality.

Criteria for Defining Animation: A Revision of the Definition of Animation in the Advent of Digital Moving Images:
http://anm.sagepub.com/content/10/1/42.full.pdf+html

This article question is a bit broad I feel for my own project, A question like this is probably about as broad as you could get with the subject of animation.

The Aesthetics of Keyframe Animation: Labor, Early Development, and Peter Foldes: http://anm.sagepub.com/content/8/2/111.full.pdf+html

This article above is something I read out of curiosity because I read the abstract and didn’t agree with the presumption that 3D animation has a lack of gravity with the relation to keyframe animation used by 3D packages.

This article is all about the existence of traditional animation with the growing emergence of digital animation. Does it have a place?

Traces of the World: Cel Animation and Photography: http://anm.sagepub.com/content/11/1/23.full.pdf+html

This article talks about how reality has left its mark on animation and how animation is a series of photographs (traditional animation) rather than a film. This focuses more on the process of traditional animation, with the cameras down to the materials used, and how the imperfections of single photographs (frames) taken can be a view into the process of that particular animation.

Summary:

These articles are but a few I will come across for this project I am sure, but, these are a good starting point to help get me in the right mindset for my own research question. I have to remember though that the research question wont be as academic as these articles.
